Michael Wiencek, Jr., FAIA will be presenting three case studies in the Washington metropolitan area where innovative problem solving design created desirable housing units from old office buildings. Cities across the country are struggling to keep up with the demand for housing. Urban land values make building new housing from the ground up an expensive proposition, which often translates to higher housing prices. However, opportunities exist to convert abandoned or underutilized office buildings into mixed-income residential housing.
