Responding to a compact corner site, Wiencek + Associates designed this 4-story Class A office building to create a gateway to this business park in Howard County. The building is positioned close to both streets and articulates the corner with an entry to a 1st floor retail space and balconies at upper levels. We used this simple gesture of building placement to create a landscaped streetscape and concealed the parking from the approach drive. Penthouse-level recessed balconies flank the corner on both front facades and provide natural light and private outdoor space. The stair and elevator towers at the rear of the building are the backdrop for a beautifully landscaped courtyard designed in the shape of a celtic knot, reflecting the heritage of the building owners and creating a reflective mood as one enters and leaves the building. Offsetting these elements beyond the footprint created large, open, flexible tenant spaces while maximizing the allowable rentable area.
